Calcaterra, a high-end furniture showroom in Phoenix, AZ, recently updated its outdated lighting system as part of a Tenant Improvement project. The goal was to create a modern aesthetic that highlights the showroom’s architecture and furniture displays while preserving the natural light flowing through the space’s large glass windows.
With its ever-changing showroom layout, the lighting needed to be flexible, providing both general illumination and spotlighting for specific areas. The original setup, with mid-century globes and track lights, lacked the refinement needed to enhance the space’s natural beauty and the showroom’s high-end furniture.
The Challenge:
The showroom's outdated fixtures needed replacing, but without overshadowing the natural vibe of the space. The challenge was to incorporate modern lighting that would enhance both the furniture and the architecture, while maintaining flexibility to adjust the lighting with the ever-evolving showroom displays.
"We wanted a lighting system that intentionally focuses on the beauty of the building, highlights the furniture and displays, and takes nothing away from the overall design,”
explained Kelly Calcaterra, the showroom designer.
The Solution:
The ModuLED suspended track system was chosen for its clean design and flexibility. With a 24V, 1.5” wide low-profile track, ModuLED allowed for easy adjustments as the showroom layout changed. All fixtures provided neutral 3500K light with a 90 CRI, ensuring accurate color rendering across various materials.
The system incorporated three fixture types:
1. Linear LED fixtures for general illumination
2. Adjustable spotlights for key pieces
3. Pendant cord cylinders for the bar display.
Jason Davis from Illumination Systems praised the seamless integration of ModuLED’s products:
"We could replace both layers of light with one clean system that better showcased their products, and the lead time was excellent—it shipped in half the expected time."
Results:
The result was a brighter, more inviting showroom, with improved light distribution and a sleek, minimalistic design. The flexibility of the system allowed the lighting to adapt to new displays, while the neutral white light brought out the true colors of the showroom’s materials. The new lighting not only enhanced the space and gave more percieved height in the showroom, but also created a more energy-efficient and modern environment, aligning with the client’s goals.
